Herbarium · the pressed collection

Your herbarium

Every flower you plant in the atelier is pressed here, numbered like a plate in a catalogue. The collection lives in this browser, and only in this browser.

About this catalogue

How the herbarium is kept

Plate numbers stay put

The first flower you plant becomes Plate 1, the next Plate 2, and so on. Numbers are never reused or reshuffled: if you remove Plate 3, the gap stays, as it would in a real catalogue. Sorting and filtering change the order you see, not the numbers.

Where the plates live

A plate is stored as nothing more than its seed. When the page opens, each flower is grown again from that seed, which is why the herbarium is tiny and why the same seed always returns the same specimen. The list sits in your browser's own local storage; clearing site data or switching browsers leaves you with an empty first page.

Keeping a copy

Export JSON saves the seeds to a small file. Restore from file reads one back in, skipping duplicates and anything unreadable, and assigns new plate numbers to what it adds. Each plate can also be downloaded on its own as a mounted SVG, and the whole catalogue can be printed.

Removing, and changing your mind

Remove takes a plate out and offers an Undo straight away. Clear all asks first. Because a seed is only a few characters, nothing is ever truly lost: type it into the atelier again and the identical flower grows back.
