Atelier · the growing bench

Name a number. Meet the flower.

Write a seed on the collector's slip and a specimen unfurls on the plate. Plant it to press it into your herbarium, or download it as an SVG to keep.

How to use it, what it assumes, where it bends

How to grow a flower

  1. Write a seed on the slip. A word, a name, a phrase or a block number all work.
  2. Press Grow, or Enter. The specimen draws itself over a few seconds; Replay bloom shows it again.
  3. With a block number in the slip, Previous and Next walk to the neighbouring heights. Notice how unrelated they look.
  4. Plant it to press the flower into your herbarium, where it keeps a plate number.
  5. Download SVG saves a file. Tick the box to mount it on a paper plate with its Latin label, or untick for the bare flower on a transparent ground.

What the atelier assumes

  • Capital letters are ignored, so Rose and rose grow the same flower.
  • Numbers may include commas, spaces or leading zeros; 210,000 and 00210000 are both read as 210000.
  • The slip holds 64 characters. Longer phrases are declined, with a note, rather than quietly cut.
  • The fingerprint is 64 bits, so two different seeds could in principle grow the same traits. It is rare, never promised away.
  • Block numbers are only digits here. The atelier never consults a node, a chain or any network.

Edge cases, kindly handled

  • An empty slip gets a gentle prompt, not a flower.
  • A negative number or a decimal, like -5 or 3.5, is not a block height, so it is read as an ordinary word and says so.
  • Very long numbers still grow, with a remark that no block height looks like that.
  • Previous at block 0 explains that nothing comes before the first height.
  • If your browser blocks storage, planting still works for this visit only, and the page tells you so before you leave.
  • The herbarium holds 200 plates; a duplicate seed points you to the plate it already has.
